• Only residential or domestic household electricity meter connections are eligible to receive Gruha Jyothi Scheme benefits.
• One person’s Aadhaar Card can be used to receive only up to 200 units of free electricity. Applying for the Gruha Jyothi Scheme for multiple electricity meters using a single person’s Aadhaar is not allowed.
• Tenants or persons residing in rented houses can also apply using their own Aadhaar card, even if the electricity meter is registered in the house owner’s name.
• Both APL & BPL ration card holders are eligible to receive up to 200 units of free electricity under the Gruha Jyothi Scheme.

Zero Electricity Bill : Under the Gruha Jyothi Scheme, residents of Karnataka state can enjoy free electricity of up to 200 units starting from July 2023, leading to a monthly zero electricity bill.

APL & BPL Cards : Regardless of family income, ration card type, religion, and caste, all residents are equally eligible to receive free electricity, limited to up to 200 units under the Gruha Jyothi Scheme.

Gruha Jyothi Scheme 2024 Average Electricity Consumption Calculation (Revised)

As mentioned earlier, residents can consume electricity of up to 200 units, implying that not everyone can use the entire 200 units for free. The eligible units for each electricity meter will be calculated by determining the average monthly electricity units consumed over the last 12 months, and then an additional 10 units will be added. This total represents the maximum units that residents can consume to qualify for a zero electricity bill.

Average units consumed : (95+88+112+185+62+135+156+99+166+175+152+180) / 12 = 133.75 Units (Avg)

Maximum units (consumable to get zero electricty bill) : (133.75 + 10) = 143.75 Units (Max)

STEP 1 : Visit the official Seva Sindhu website designated for guarantee schemes by clicking on the link below.

STEP 2 : Click on the “Gruha Jyothi” option. An online application form will be opened for registration.

STEP 3 : Choose your preferred language, either English or Kannada, and proceed to fill out the online form for the Gruha Jyothi.

STEP 4 : Select your ESCOM name from the drop-down list and enter the account or consumer ID, which is available at the top portion in your electricity bill. The account holder’s name and address will be automatically fetched from the respective ESCOM database.

STEP 5 : Now, select the type of occupancy as follows:

• Owner : Choose this if you are the owner of the house, and the electricity meter bill is in your name.
• Tenant : Choose this option if you are residing in a rented house, and the electricity meter bill is in the house owner’s name.
• Family Member : Choose this option if the electricity meter bill is in the name of a family member, such as father, mother, grandfather, etc.

STEP 6 : Enter the Aadhaar number and press “Enter” to automatically fetch your Aadhaar name. Finally, tick the declaration, fill out the captcha, and click the submit button.
