For BPL Ration Card
Here are the eligibility criteria for applying for a new BPL (Below Poverty Line) ration card in Karnataka. Applicants must meet all of the following conditions to qualify:
- The applicant should not be a permanent employee of the government, government-subsidized institutions, or government-sponsored state-owned institutions, boards, corporations, or autonomous bodies, regardless of salary. Additionally, the household should not be paying Income Tax, Service Tax, VAT, or Profession Tax.
- The household should not own more than three hectares of dryland (or the equivalent in irrigated land) in rural areas, and should not own a well-constructed, concrete house measuring more than 1,000 square feet in urban areas.
- The household should not own a four-wheeler vehicle, except for one commercial vehicle (such as a tractor, maxicab, or taxi) used for self-employment and livelihood.
- The family’s annual income should be ₹1.2 lakhs or less.
Meeting these criteria makes a household eligible for applying for a BPL ration card in Karnataka.
For APL Ration Card
There is no specific eligibility criteria for an APL (Above Poverty Line) Ration Card, but the applicant must be a resident of Karnataka and hold an Aadhaar card.

How To Apply Online For New Ration Card Karnataka?
To apply for the new ration card in Karnataka, please visit your nearby Grama One, Karnataka One, Bangalore One, or CSC (Common Service Center) centers. Alternatively, you can apply on your own by following the process outlined below.
Step 1: To apply for a new ration card, first visit https://ahara.kar.nic.in/public_new_rc/ and select your preferred language (Kannada or English). Then, select the “New Ration Card Request” option.
Step 2: Choose the type of card you are applying for, such as PHH for AAY and BPL cards, or NPHH for APL ration cards.
Step 3: Enter the Aadhaar number of any one family member and the mobile number linked with the Aadhaar. Select OTP as your preferred authentication mode, then click the Go button. Enter the OTP received and the captcha displayed on your screen, then click Go. (If the Aadhaar is not linked with a mobile number, select fingerprint verification as the mode of authentication and capture your fingerprint to complete Aadhaar authentication.)
Step 4: Once authentication is completed, click the “ADD” button to include the member in the new ration card.
Step 5: Click on “Add Family Member” and enter their Aadhaar number, completing the Aadhaar authentication. Repeat this process to add all family members.
Step 6: Once all family members are added, assign the head of the family (HOF) and select the relationship of all family members with the HOF, then click on the Next stage.
Step 7: Select any one family member whose Aadhaar card address you want printed on your ration card and choose your nearby FAIR SHOP where you wish to collect the ration, then click Go.
Step 8: An acknowledgment slip will be generated. Print it and submit it at your Taluk Food and Civil Supplies Department office for verification and approval.
